VoidNotch is a macOS menu-bar and notch app that shows your system health, AI usage, and agent status. It is built to keep your data on your Mac. This page explains exactly what it reads and the one time it talks to the network.
- No account, no sign-up.
- No analytics, no telemetry, no tracking.
- Everything it displays is read from data already on your Mac.
- The only outbound request it ever makes is verifying a Pro licence.
What VoidNotch reads on your Mac, and never transmits
- System metrics: CPU, memory, disk, network, battery and thermal readings, via macOS and Apple Silicon system APIs.
- AI usage: read from the local CLI and session files of the AI tools you already run (for example Claude, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Gemini / Antigravity, Grok, Cursor).
- Agent activity: read from local files such as your AI tools' configuration (for example
~/.claude) and an event log VoidNotch keeps under~/Library/Application Support/VoidNotch.
All of this stays on your Mac. VoidNotch does not upload it, store it remotely, or share it with anyone.
Microphone and speech
The optional "answer in the notch" feature (Pro) lets you speak a choice out loud. When you use it:
- VoidNotch uses Apple's on-device speech recognition whenever your Mac and language support it, so your audio never leaves your Mac.
- If on-device recognition is not available for your chosen language, macOS may send the audio to Apple to transcribe it, under Apple's privacy policy.
VoidNotch itself never records, stores, or transmits your audio, and the microphone is only active while you are actively dictating a choice.
The only network request: Pro licence verification
If you buy Pro, VoidNotch contacts its own licence server to activate and periodically re-validate your licence. That request sends:
- your licence key,
- your Mac's name, and
- a hashed hardware identifier: a one-way SHA-256 of your Mac's hardware UUID (the raw UUID is never sent).
This binds your licence to your Mac. No other data is sent, and this is the only outbound connection the app makes. The Community edition and the free trial make no network requests at all.
Purchases
Purchases are processed in your web browser by Polar, our Merchant of Record. Your payment details go to Polar, not to VoidNotch, and Polar's privacy policy governs that data. VoidNotch only ever receives a licence key.
